Some of the buyers that I work with have the mindset to wait until after the peak season to move forward with buying an oceanfront condo. The thought process is that there may be more motivation from the sellers now that South Florida is in a “slow season”.  There has not been a slow down in sales along the coast for new oceanfront condos. In fact, there is an increase in activity. Here are some statistics that reflect the Post Season Sales activity in Miami Beach and up the coast including Sunny, Isles, Bal Harbour, Hollywood -Hallandale, and  Fort Lauderdale. The information…

Friday, May 18 is National Bike to Work Day! In fact, this entire week (May 14 – May 18) is National Bike to Work Week, one of many events being held in celebration of National Bike Month. (Here in Florida, our official Bike Month is celebrated in March.) The City of Miami’s Bicycle…

    9 May 2012 | 5:01 pm
The 20th annual Congress of the New Urbanism is being held in West Palm Beach this year, and for lovers of human-scaled urbanism there is no other place to be. For those of you new to the game, the congress is a meeting of the brightest American urban minds. We commiserate, share the work of the past year, and create new connections with other like-minded professionals. If you have never been to a Congress it can be overwhelming at first. This is not your typical corporate conference. You won’t find sessions on ‘Negotiating Skills for Planners’ or ‘Airport Land-Use Districts’ (both…

For lovers of urbanism, the annual Congress for the New Urbanism is an event to be anticipated all year. The annual conference brings together urban planners, architects, and policy makers to discuss the practice of urbanism. For many of us the Congress can feel like a family reunion – a time to celebrate the work of the past year with colleagues, and to reaffirm our commonly held beliefs in the principles of traditional town design. This year the Congress is being held in West Palm Beach, and Transit Miami will be there all week to cover the events in a live blogging partnership with Next…

  • Food, Folks and Photos

    14 May 2012 | 7:46 am
I've got tons of blogging to catch up on! Back in August/September I traveled to San Francisco and along the way I hung out with some cool people (like our waiter Charles Nicholson who gave us the best service ever), ate some great food and took some cool shots. It was a great trip. One of my favorite things to do when my travels are through is to bring a little something back for the Dayngrous Duo. This time it was SkippyJon Jones and Only One You and their corresponding stuffed animals - of course! They love reading and I love keeping them inspired with fun books. These two are great. If…

  • And Now I'm a Happy Bride - Almost

    5 May 2012 | 7:48 pm
The inherently bi-polar nature of getting married has officially claimed me as its victim. Since I last wrote, I've swung from full-on panic to full-on excitement. It's truly strange and bizarre but infinitely amusing to me to see how excited! and happy! and thrilled! and SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I am about all this. I would say, "this is sooo not me," except that this IS me. This is the me I hold

Just when I feared I had nothing of interest left to blog about, along comes a proposal that turns everything upside down, and, voila! This blog becomes, as of right now, the receptacle of all my anxiety as I launch into wedding preparations, because this, this is going to be one interesting experience. Before I launch into the reasons for my wedding anxiety, I have to say that we have

I don't know how to write this. Guess that's what I should conclude after all these attempts. My brain is having a total aside moment now, amused at how you can consider yourself a writer, or be someone who needs to

  • Erik Fresen's Loosey Goosey Campaign Report. By Geniusofdespair

    16 May 2012 | 6:04 am
I always enjoy looking at campaign reports and Rep. Erik's Fresen's report did not disappoint. He has a line $419.45 to Millie Fresen (5/10) and another for $509.04 (9/7) for "Various Expenses" and one to himself (6/27) for $447.34 - again various expenses. Like what are these "various expenses"? On 9/30 she got another reimbursement for expenses in the amount of $318.47. He had an expense for his cell phone for 5 months for $920.96. He also includes his wife's cell phone for $690.38. Didn't he ever hear of a family plan? Three weeks later his wife had another cell phone bill for $492.12 and…
  • Can Government Do Anything Right? ... by gimleteye

    16 May 2012 | 5:48 am
Yesterday, the county environmental regulatory agency, DERM, was folded deep into a managerial reorganization recommended by Mayor Carlos Gimenez and approved by the county commission. The Miami Herald lamented, "Don't abandon the environment", on its editorial page. The agency "already is a shadow of its former self". DERM was created to protect Miami-Dade's unique natural resources, including proximity to two national parks and a national marine sanctuary. Its exile begs the question: Can government do anything right? In the same editorial, the Herald offered support for one-stop shop…
  • Florida City's Convoluted or Crooked Deal. By Geniusofdespair

    15 May 2012 | 2:39 pm
I suspect kickbacks are in the works for someone in Government or is this just a very bad deal?  The property appraiser estimated the worth of this property in 2010 as $601,440.  Florida City paid $3,000,000 for it 10/2010.It sold for $3,000,000 in August 2005 to Geo Group (they manage correctional facilities) -- that is the TOP of the market.  So why did Florida City pay so much 5 years later?  Did the owner pave it with gold? The previous owner submitted all the plans. I guess they will manage it. So what does the Geo Group do, buy expensive land and then sell it to a…
  • Floating in a sea of sewage ... by gimleteye

    15 May 2012 | 6:13 am
The news that the federal government is in intensive settlement discussions with Miami-Dade County over a sewage system prone to multi-million gallon leaks is no surprise to the bloggers at Eyeonmiami. We've been tracking the smell of politics ruined by sewage for years and years.Where to begin? How about with discredited former county commissioner Natacha Seijas and the propensity of county commissioners to give each other high-fives for shifting the costs of needed infrastructure to future generations of taxpayers? Nearly a decade ago, Miami-Dade County was seeking a consumptive use…

So, Mothers Day. I had to make breakfast for everyone. The boys couldn't get along and kept bonking each other on the head. My husband took us to the mall to have me pick out a gift for his mother. Lunch was rushed, we were late to meet with the in-laws, and dinner at the restaurant was awful. But I got to go stroll Hollywood Beach with my guys and feel the soft breezes. I got to sleep in past 10 am. My family gave me a new suitcase and a gardening book and made me cards. Several friends or family members texted me Mothers Day wishes. I guess I should count my blessings. Hosted by Krystyn at…

This past weekend I experienced the best blogging conference I've attended yet -- the Mom 2.0 Summit. It was an hour's drive away from my home, so like a nerd I drove there each day instead of shelling out big bucks to stay at the Ritz-Carlton. (Which was fabulous, of course, and I'm sure worth every cent they asked for.) Why was this the best conference so far? It's the only one where I got to meet The Bloggess. You know my boys love penguins. Scratch that, they are obsessed with penguins. Plush penguins come out of the bedrooms with the boys when they wake up in the morning, most days the penguins go to school or on errands, and the boys play with them all day and take them back to bed with them at night. This is no small thing. There are 25 penguins in my house. I counted. And each one has a name. That doesn't include the penguin figurines, or penguin T-shirts (seven) or penguin blanket. There's a rockhopper penguin notebook and pen set from SeaWorld. We have nine or ten DVDs about penguins -- some…

    19 Apr 2012 | 10:03 am
In the first Part of the Rewarding Success series we discussed attitudes and the effects of a poor attitude. In this post we will examine beliefs which are an acceptance that a statement or that something is true. Our beliefs dictate our attitudes towards people, and subjects; it is what our body acts on because we hold that concept to be true. If you believe your car is not going to start there is a strong chance that you won’t try and start it because you hold that concept to be true. Beliefs are probably the most important impediment in reaching goals or in striving to make something…

Still, most people want to be successful but they do not realize that success comes from within and it is a product of how you view successful people. In many of those conversations the tone eluded to successful people having some special privileges and therefore society should…

It is a relationship that works because helping people is what all businesses try to do whether you are selling furniture or trying to help people find the correct financing. Then as the year 2000 came around poverty levels started rising again.  By 1999 the overall poverty rate had dropped to 9.3 percent for all families, 4.9 percent for married couples without children, 11.8 percent for male households and 27.8 percent for female households. In 2010 the numbers were much higher where all families were at 11.7 percent, married couples without children were at 6.2 percent, and male households rose to 15.8 percent and women households was at a staggering 31.6percent.
